Anti-slavery campaigners rise to a challenge

The group behind the Ride for Freedom campaign against modern slavery has declared last weekend's Cycle Revolution series of events a huge success.

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 

Waste management company Biffa and recruitment firm Challenge-trg "exceeded their cycling and fundraising goals" with indoor and outdoor challenges, while campaign founder Gordon Miller cycled to six schools to meet nominated Race and Social Justice Ambassadors. Fundraiser Jon Frost "vEverested", a virtual equivalent to scaling the mighty mountain, by climbing 8,848m in 15 hours of indoor cycling on the Zwift simulator.

Marking International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, the initiative is accepting donations until December 15th, when it hopes to buy 200 "pre-loved" bikes for 200 vistims of modern slavery to promote self-reliance and help them access work or eductaion. Donate here.

Chasing the Sun premieres

Velocity took a trip to the Ritzy Cinema in Brixton last night to take in "Chasing the Sun", a new documentary film exploring not just the annual challenge of riding 200 miles, coast to coast, but also some of the side stories of those involved, exemplifying the sheer joy – and sometimes therapy – that cycling can bring.
