Club Peloton considers summer Cycle to MIPIM 2021

MIPIM's move to June prompts rethink on flagship ride

The Cycle to MIPIM 2021 may yet take place next summer after MIPIM organiser Reed Midem's decision to reschedule the property conference in Cannes, France, from March to June 2021.

"Cycling to MIPIM in June - long days, warm sunshine, it's everything everyone always joked about wanting," Club Peloton chief executive Nick Hanmer told Velocity. "But how do we do it and give certainty to people and give them something meaningful to take part in?"

Hanmer was waiting for an appropriate moment in the evolution of the pandemic to announce a UK-based programme of events for 2021, to replace the annual Cycle to MIPIM ride. On 2 October, Club Peloton emailed members to say: "With the current ebb and flow of travel restrictions and other measures to contain the COVID-19 virus, we simply feel it would be unfair to add any further uncertainty by attempting to run Cycle to MIPIM next year.

"We do however have some exciting plans to replace it in 2021 we think you're going to love and can't wait to share them with you once the last details are finalised."

Those plans are now being re-evaluated, however. "Does holding it in June remove enough uncertainty?" Hanmer questioned. "What does it change? I'm no virologist - can we say by June we'll be in a good situation?

"We are looking at the new dates and talking with partners and friends in the property cycling community and we'll announce any plans in the coming months."

The MIPIM property conference in Cannes, France, is scheduled to run from June 2-5 2021.
