About 40 women have registered to take part in the Legal and General Real Assets Cycle to MIPIM next March. The ballot closed last week with over 85 riders for each of the two routes.
Last March just 14 women rode to Cannes and organiser Club Peloton is delighted with the record-breaking increase. Speaking at a briefing meeting for Ride Captains on 16 October, event manager Rhian Fletcher said: "Next year the ride is all about diversity and inclusivity." Legal and General Real Assets has extended its lead sponsorship of the event to a fourth year.
Events director Chris Clarke added that Club Peloton wanted the ride experience next year to be less intimidating. "We're emphasising much more the relay nature of the ride, taking it back to its roots," he said.
Participants will be encouraged to ride within their limits, resting when necessary, to foster more interaction, conversation and networking. “Riders burying themselves trying to do too much can disappear into themselves and don’t play a full part in the peloton,” Clarke said.
Rider numbers are likely to change, Fletcher noted. "The deadline for payment of deposits is coming up, and that's usually where some drop out, so there might be space for any late entries that come in.”
